Following the successful development and implementation
of compulsory dog microchipping in 2015, Defra
turned its attention to the need to update and streamline
the controls on pet licensing, and in particular around the
breeding and selling of puppies. Marisa Heath at Canine
& Feline Sector Group reveals that the legislation should
cover a wide range of different businesses, including
the supply chains, wholesalers, consolidators, breeders,
franchisees, home vendors, very small single-branch
pet shops and the huge public-facing chains.
