Dr Dylan Clements honoured for his outstanding contributions to veterinary surgery A canine specialist has won a prestigious award for his outstanding contributions to veterinary surgery. Dr Dylan Clements from the University of Edinburgh received the Simon Award at the 2018 BSAVA Congress in Birmingham. A senior lecturer in small animal surgery at the Royal Dick School of Veterinary Studies, Dr Clements carries out research into the genetic basis and functional aspects of canine osteoarthritis. He also leads the Dogslife Project – the largest, long-term study of canine health in the world. Rabbit specialist crowned ‘vet of the year’ at CEVA awards

Dr Richard Saunders praised for getting RVHD2 vaccination into the UK Rabbit specialist advisor Dr Richard Saunders was crowned ‘Vet of the Year’ at the 2018 Ceva Animal Welfare Awards. Richard, who helps guide the welfare and strategy of the Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund (RWAF), won the prestigious ’Chris Laurence Vet of the Year’ award for his dedication to improving rabbit welfare. Judges praised Richard for his work in getting a new vaccine into the UK to protect rabbits against RVHD2. Rae Todd, CEO of the RWAF, commented: “We’re incredibly proud of Richard for all of his hard work and delighted that he’s received recognition for his work. We all owe Richard a huge debt of gratitude for his commitment to the industry and for protecting all pet rabbits. New specialist referral centre to open

A state-of-the-art, multi-million pound referral centre for specialist surgical and neurological referrals is set to open in Buckinghamshire early in 2018. Michael Hamilton. Hamilton Specialist Referrals will be a wholly independent business and will be the only one of its kind in the local area when it opens in High Wycombe in February. The hospital will be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and will offer the most advanced treatment options available for orthopaedic, neurosurgical and neurological cases. Facilities will include on-site 1.5T MRI and CT scanner suites, a variety of joint replacement systems, electrodiagnostics and a full complement of the latest radiography and arthroscopy equipment. The hospital will have a dedicated physiotherapy and rehabilitation department, which will include aqua treadmills and computerised gait analysis technology.
